History:

H.A. Johnson was incorporated in 1927 in Boston, Ma. under the name Johnson & Anderson. Mr. Anton Johnson started this bowling business after working for Brunswick for seven years as an installation foreman. Johnson & Anderson manufactured and installed bowling lanes and pool tables in the Northeast. In those days, every part of a lane and billiard table was hand made.

In 1952, Harold A. Johnson took over the business and the name was changed to H. A. Johnson & Sons.

In 1965, Fred Johnson took over the company and moved to a new location in Andover, Ma., where the company acquired a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse.

In 1974, H. A. Johnson expanded into buying, selling, and refurbishing pinsetters and bowling equipment.

In 1979, H. A. Johnson in cooperation with DBA and GE installed the first synthetic lane in Chicago, IL.

In 1985, H. A. Johnson sold its Andover building and relocated their headquarters to a new 24,000 sq. ft. warehouse and office complex in Newburyport, Ma.

By 1986, H. A. Johnson had installed more synthetic lanes than any other independent company in the United States.

In 1987, H. A. Johnson started to import Mendes bowling equipment of Canada and distribute throughout the United States.

In 1991, Jeff Johnson and Fred Johnson Jr. joined H. A. Johnson & Sons, Inc. making it a 4th generation 66 year old family business.

In 1993, Due to numous installation of synthetic lanes and a shrinking industry the Newburyport facility was totally leased out and H. A. Johnson & Sons acquired a 12,000 sq. building in Salisbury, Ma.

In 1994, H. A. Johnson & Sons entered the home consumer market with the opening of the Wood Floor Warehouse at the Salisbury facility to sell and install hardwood floors and Dreamspace decks & docks.

In 1997, H.A. Johnson sold its wood flooring business and is now 100% in the wholesale and retail distribtution to contractors and home owners of Decks Docks and Railings. We truly believe that the future is in Maintenance free Recycled Synthetic Decking, Docking and Railing..."The Natural Replacement"
